Common Terms and Acronyms used in Mechanical Permits


Imprv Type : Improvement Type = New Construction, Addition, Alteration/Repair.

Imprv Class : Improvement Class = Use of the building (Single Family, Office, Retail, etc.)

Valuation :
Value of work for which permit is requested.
 
City Program :
Work that is being paid for in whole or part by one of the City's energy programs.

Issuance Fee :
Set fee charged for the issuance of the permit.

New SFR : New Single Family Residence.

New MFR : New Multi Family Residence.

Addl Unit :
Additional Unit = Additional residential Living Unit.

New MH :
New Mobile Home.

Comm SqFt :
The square footage of the area within a commercial building the work is being done.

Ind SqFt :
The square footage of the area within a industrial building the work is being done. 

Chg Out (to 5 Tons) :
The changing out of an existing heating and/or air conditioning unit with a capacity of 5 tons or less. 

Chg Out (over 5 Tons) :
The changing out of an existing heating and/or air conditioning unit with a capacity of more than 5 tons.

Refrigeration :
Work that deals with refrigeration systems such as commercial freezers or coolers. 

Comm K Exh Sys :
Commercial kitchen exhaust system.

Ductwork Alt :
Work that involves only changes or extensions to air duct systems.

Re-Inspection :
A subsequent inspection required due to the first inspection not being approved. 

Hourly Rate :
The hourly cost the contractor must pay to receive inspections outside the normal business hours of the Building Inspection Division.
